PERIODONTAL SURGERY
The Gold Standard in Periodontal Care
Periodontal surgery has been considered the gold standard of periodontal care for over 20 years, simply because it is a thorough process which produces exceptional results and minimally invasive. Also known as Osseous Surgery, the technique involves the removal of infected tissue from periodontally infected teeth. With the aid of a local anesthetic, Osseous Surgery techniques ensure the complete removal of toxic bacteria from root surfaces, as well as the removal of diseased tissue. Small access incisions are created along the neck of the tooth, and require the use of sutures and surgical dressings. Not only have remarkable breakthroughs improved how periodontal disease are treated but, within the last five years, there are ways to almost
reverse it altogether.
There is a firm link between gum disease and heart disease, especially when it is left untreated.
Periodontal disease is also linked to a variety of serious health risks, which is why you should
never leave gum disease untreated. These increased risks include:
- cancer (head/neck)
- dementia
- heart disease
- low birth weight (in babies)
- memory loss
- pancreatic cancer
- pre-term labor
- stroke
- diabetes
